The building in Italyanskaya Ulitsa, 13 in the center of St. Petersburg is more than two centuries old, and it has housed the Theatre of Musical Comedy for more than 100 years. During the Great Patriotic war, the Theatre and its staff showed unprecedented heroism and courage, as they continued working all the 900 days of the Siege of Leningrad. The light and cheerful genre of operetta gave the residents and the combatants moments of rest, an opportunity to get away from the miserable moment and faith in the coming victory.
Now the Theatre of Musical Comedy still cherishes the traditions of St. Petersburg operetta. The theatre has 2 halls: the great hall can house an audience of 842 people, and the small one is for 374.
During the high tourist season, the theatre shows performances of classical Russian ballet. You are offered to see «Swan Lake», «Giselle», «Sleeping Beauty», «Nutcracker», «Don Quixote» and other ballets.
