The Alexandinsky Theater is situated in the heart of the city – in the middle of the main Street – the Nevsky Avenue. (Nevsky Prospekt). Is wat established by the special order of Empress Elizabeth The I, the daughter of Peter the Great in august 1756. It is one of the oldest theaters in Russia and in Saint-Petersburg. An architectural masterpiece of Karl Rossi, named after the wife of Nicholas I – Alexandra. In the Soviet period, the theater was renamed Pushkin Theater.
This happened in 1937, in the year of the centenary of the poet’s death.
Alexandrinsky Theater is famous for its truly magnificent acoustics. Even if the actor quietly whispers something from the stage, his words will be heard from anywhere in the auditorium. For this reason, the theater-goers are not worried when buying tickets for the last row: everything will be perfectly audible, for better perception it remains only to stock up on binoculars.
